Is 1000 a lot?
Today we read about 1000. Numbers can be tricky; one single number can seem big in some situations and small in others. 1000 seems small when we think about people on Earth, but HUGE when we think about number of students in our school. What about 1000 freckles on someones face? Is that a lot of freckles?
Your inquiry task tonight is to find the answers to one question below. Tell me if this number is bigger, or smaller than 1000. Also state if you think this is a big, or small, number. Send me your answers on your Google drive account.
- How many strands of hair does the average person have on their head?
- How many people can sit in MetLife Stadium?
- How many days have you been alive?
February 19 Number Talk Game
Addition Strategies
We are learning to do mental math. Quick strategies, in our minds, are useful in doing math when we are in the real world.
Fractions + Games = Happy Students
Happy students + Learning = Happy Teacher
We have complete 4/10 months of school and are already half way through the month of January. Can you believe how fast grade 3 is flying by?
I must say, teaching fractions has been one of the best math units this year. Through "The Wishing Club" and "Full House: an Invitation to Fractions," our class learned that fractions are a part of a whole. We drew pictures, compared fractions and talked about food a lot. Who really wants to share a chocolate bar with 6 friends?
We concluded the unit, and prepared for our test, with a game. The students loved it; they even asked to stay in at recess to play Fractions BINGO.
Shapes and Space
We are nearing the end of our 2D and 3D Shapes and Space unit. This week, we matched up 3D shapes with their correct names. I was so proud of the students when I could hear them talk about the difference between prisms and pyramids while applying techniques practiced in class to identify faces, vertices and edges. Above, is a picture of the work we did after studying the meaning, and importance, of prefixes in naming shapes. Have a discussion with your child about the tricks we discovered in naming shapes.

Hi Gr. 3 students! What was the tallest structure in the world for more than 4,000 years? Today it stands at 137 m (449.5 ft) high, having lost 9.5 m (31 ft) from the top.

So Miss.hagel in the video u said that we have to add the numbers that we have so for exampel i got125 and the person have 261 we have to do 1+2+5+2+6+1=19 but we have to end it with a zero because those numbers are from the tens spot
ReplyDeleteFreeda, watch the video again. I said to add 2 3-digit numerals, not add 6 1-digit numerals. You would add 125 + 261 =
